UPES FIPI Student Chapter became the first Student Chapter to be established by the FIPI Society in UPES. Founded on 24th September 2007, UPES FIPI Student Chapter completes twelve golden years of success this year. Since its establishment, UPES FIPI Student Chapter has been an inspiration for all FIPI Student Chapters across the nation by increasing the standards of excellence at the academic, co-curricular and social front with each passing year. Focusing on the booms and downturns, economic swings and variations taking place in the petroleum industry, the Chapter through its activities delivers essential knowledge to its members. It has been the prime responsibility of the Chapter to provide the members with the knowledge of their domain, along with the opportunity to unveil the skills which are yet to be revealed. With the motto of corporation and collaboration, UPES FIPI Student Chapter ceaselessly works to nurture the School of Engineering (SOE), School of Law (SOL) and School of Business (SOB).

The Publicity Committee is highly dedicated to represent the Chapter within the premises of the university. The members of this Committee hold the uttermost responsibility to be the face of the Chapter among the students of the university.

The Events Committee creates a comprehensive event plan including goals/desired outcomes and theme of the event, and turns an event idea into reality by preparing all the minute details of an event and organizing them in the most structured and fun way possible.

This is what Graphic and Design Committee stands for. They are responsible for providing the Chapter what it takes to be presentable and understandable to each individual by producing different posters, info-graphs, videos and typography.

The Membership Committee is one of the most significant and substantial working committee for the Chapter as it is tasked with defining representation of the Chapter amongst the students, and to guide them into the Chapter as its members.

Apart from being the mouthpiece of the organization, the Public Relations Committee are responsible for spearheading the crucial task of sustaining a beneficial relationship with the industry and related sectors, and acquiring sponsorships and industrial tie-ups.

The Editorial Committee is responsible for maintaining the logs of the events which are being conducted by the Chapter. The Committee acts to inspect and review the international happenings, and to stimulate curiosity through stupendous writings. The purpose of the first draft is not to get it right, but to get it written!

Dr. Mandira Agarwal graduated with an Honors degree in Geology from Guwahati University in Assam, an M.Tech degree in Applied Geology from IIT- Roorkee, and an M.Phil and Ph.D in Geoenvironment from NEHU in Shilong, Meghalaya.
Dr. Mandira Agarwal is guiding the students of UPES FIPI Student Chapter in the capacity of Faculty Advisor since its inception in 2007 and has brought the chapter to great heights from scratch. The students from the chapter under her guidance are able to bring a number of laurels to the University. Apart from this, Dr. Agarwal also works passionately for the underprivileged sections of society.
She is currently a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering & Earth Sciences at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun.
Dr. Patidar holds a PhD degree in Geology and has over 15 years of professional experience in subsurface exploration and management. He has previously worked with various Oil & Gas industrial giants like Reliance Industries Limited & British Petroleum as a Senior Exploration Geoscientist in their E&P business from the year 2007-2018.
He has a specialization in upstream oil and gas business mainly in seismic data interpretation, new acreage screening, prospect maturation, appraisal model planning and Risk/ uncertainty analysis and drilling and Techno-commerciality decisions planning.
He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering & Earth Sciences at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun.

In the truest sense, independence cannot be bestowed; it must be won. UPES FIPI Student Chapter celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with children in a primary school of Bidholi. We feel immense gratitude towards the valiant martyrs. The flag hoisting ceremony was led by the head of the village and everyone had a sense of pride and patriotism in their eyes as the Tiranga waved in the wind.

Cleanliness is indeed next to godliness. We, at UPES FIPI Student Chapter, believe that a city must be made beautiful on the parameters of good health and cleanliness. Supervised by chapter officials, five teams of students conducted a cleanliness drive on the path which connects the campus from Dehradun city. The activity not only made the masses responsible for the environment but also planted a motivation for teamwork in the participants.

Fitness is the first requisite of happiness. UPES FIPI Student Chapter made an effort to raise the spirit of sports for children of primary school in Bidholi. The chapter organized various sports events for the children. Their enthusiasm and active participation filled our hearts with joy. The winners were given their well-deserved prizes and the silver lining was applause from the teachers and their guardians.

Disability is a matter of perception. UPES FIPI Student Chapter paid a visit to Cheshire Homes, Dehradun. The students got the opportunity to interact and spend some wonderful time with these people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Chapter tried to do their part and distributed bed-sheets to the people. Seeing the smiles on those charming faces brought about a sense of bliss in our hearts.

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. UPES FIPI Student Chapter, in collaboration with ICFDR, organized Easy Classes for a Government School in Dunga. The goal was to help the students learn new things and extra-curricular activities within the school premises. The Chapter will continue to do their part and try to reach masses, all the way sharing knowledge.

The greatest good is what we do for one another. UPES FIPI Student Chapter, in the endeavour of making a difference, organized ‘Koshish 2.0’. This donation drive embraced the government schools of Bidholi and Upper Kandoli. The students displayed their enthusiasm by donating various items like clothes, accessories, footwear, stationery, book and notebooks. This huge contribution helped in lifting the spirit of those in need.
Dr. Rabi Narayan Bastia was graced with the "Padma Shri", India's fourth highest civilian award in 2007. The talk by him left the audience spellbound by his exposition and the stories narrated. The aura of the expert had a telling effect on one and all.The talk threw light on plausible and possible alternatives besides thermogenic oil and gas.

Laying heavy emphasis on the undiscovered segments of the Earth’s crust, in his talk he presented several technological advancements via which these unevaluated sections can be categorized as potential sources of Oil & Gas.

Banerjee on “Sustainable Development – Imperatives of Oil and Gas Industry” found participation by professionals from all across the country and experienced something truly extraordinary. It was a wonderful exposition on how Oil & Gas Industry is vital to the global economy and many national economies, including developing countries.

The lecture by Dr. Rafat Jamaal Azmi focused on the subjects of geochronology, micropaleontology and the stratigraphic divisions of India. Among the chief issues addressed, was the problem of the chronological development of events not validated that had greatly impacted the exploration of oil and gas in northern India.It was no less than a disposition of wisdom and the vastness of his knowledge which he bestowed on the audience.

A distinguished talk on “Practices of Reservoir Management” with a detailed explanation of what exactly reservoir management is, its purpose and its comprehensive analysis about reservoir behaviour and production mechanisms, so as to convey a valuable information. Dr. Anil Kumar gave some incredible tips on how to manage these reservoirs for maximum efficiency which has the potential to make a drastic change in the field. The lecture attempted to and quite modestly succeeded in covering a vast array of facts and knowledge.
